What to Wear When You're Exhausted
by Cynthia Nellis
When you're tired the last thing you want to worry about is how you look. But sometimes you need to look your best --
whether you're hosting a party or leading a business meeting -- regardless of how exhausted you feel.
Keep these easy fashion tricks in mind for the next time you need that little something extra to help pull you through
the day.
- Wear something that makes you smile
: Whether it's a fun pair of animal-print loafers or your grandmother's locket, put on something that brings a smile to
your face. Lifting your mood boosts your energy and makes you look more refreshed.
- Wear fragrance
: A yummy scent has a way of transporting you to another level. New fragrances like the amazing Lovely by Sarah Jessica
Parker will elevate your mood in an instant.
- Don't wear anything too comfortable
: Your first instinct when you're pooped is to reach for comfort clothes. For most of us that means something well
worn-in and bordering on sloppy (ripped jeans, baggy sweats, faded track suits). Instead reach for rich fabrics like velvet, satin and
cashmere. They'll give you lots of comfort without looking sloppy.
- Wear your favorite color
: Whether your favorite color is baby pink or black, it's a scientific fact that surrounding ourselves with our favorite
colors makes us feel better. And if you feel better, you look better.
- Wear a dress
: Now's not the time to fuss with layers and belts; a simple, one-piece dress -- like Diane von Furstenberg's classic
wrap dress-- can take even the most exhausted woman through the next event with ease.
- Makeup is a necessity, not a luxury
: Lush dark lashes, a smooth foundation, touched up blemishes and undereye circles, blush and lipstick will work miracles.
For makeup application tips, see Beauty at About.com.One trick for an instant face-lift is to put a highlighter -- like a creamy shadow
in pearl -- on the very top of the cheekbone, above the lips and on the browbone.
